Angelina Jolie 'Louis Vuitton's

The latest installment of Louis Vuitton’s Core Values Campaign features actress and UN Goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie.

Angelina agreed to be captured by famous photographer Annie Leibowitz for the campaign in Cambodia, a country which she first visited in 2000 for her role as Lara Croft and later returned on humanitarian missions, raising awareness of the dangers of landmines. She subsequently adopted her first child, Maddox, from a Cambodia orphanage.

The striking capture shows Jolie sitting in a traditional wooden boat in the province of Siem Reap, alongside her vintage Louis Vuitton Monogram Alto Holdall, a bag she has owned for many years.

I go on your site daily and love it!!. I love to read your reviews and have bought some of the bags you have recommended. I have a quick question. I am torn between two Louis Vuitton bags. I am interested in the Neverfull MM and the Speedy 35. I am going with the Damier version. I am looking long term and would be interested in your opinion.

I am more traditional than not and I am a stay at home mom. I did purchase a YSL muse bag over Christmas. I got the cranberry color. It really is beautiful. Also, I am 40 years old. I want it to be age appropriate.

It has been a while since my last installment of Ask Megs. In fact, it has been 2 years. We get dozens of emails daily and many of them are questions about bags. Because I spend all day researching, looking at, and shopping for bags, I love to help anyone else out in their quest. This week I am spotlighting Jenna E., who is torn between purchasing the Louis Vuitton Damier Neverfull and the Louis Vuitton Damier Speedy.

The bag you want to compare the Speedy to is the Louis Vuitton Neverfull, which has become another House staple. How can you not love this bag? It is lightweight, roomy, and reversible. The strongest point of this bag is its ease of use. The side laces allow you to tighten the bag into a more compact shape or let them out to a full tote size. Either way, the volume of the inside of the bag is vast. And of course, it is reversible, which is a nice touch and not found on many (if any) designer handbags.

It is not that the Speedy is not lightweight, but the large and long shoulder straps of the Neverfull will allow you to put this bag over your shoulder with ease and allocate the weight better for carrying. The shoulder straps are long and slender, without any additional chains or weight, which will not have it dig into your body.

The look of the bag is not nearly as iconic as the Speedy, but it is a great, simple, everyday tote. And an everyday tote is an essential for any collection. However, you did just tell me you bought a YSL Muse. The Muse offers a similar shape to the Speedy but looks more like the Neverfull if you have the side pulls cinched. I am having a hard time leaning either way for you. I would suggest deciding if you want a bag that can be worn over your shoulder comfortably or not and which looks strikes you the most. Hope this helps!

Buy the Speedy 35 in Damier at LV online for $715 and the Neverfull MM in Damier for $700.

Louis Vuitton Epi Leather Bowling Montaigne

In the South, we’re a little weird about college football. If any of you grew up or went to college south of the Mason-Dixon line, you’re already aware of this phenomenon. Not only do our college teams garner much more ardent support than any of our professional teams, but people devote themselves to their Alma maters with an emotional vigor that is rare to find elsewhere in all of sports.

So what’s this got to do with handbags, you say? Well, today is opening day of the 2008 college football season, and although most of the games aren’t until Saturday, a few will be televised tonight and kick off (literally) the happiest 12 weeks of the year for this sports fan. Not only that, but this time of year brings about an odd dressing conundrum for all female football fans that support schools in the South. Because here, you can’t just wear *anything* to a game. We dress up for football like some people dress up for church – and we do it in our team’s colors. Some schools (particularly those where orange figures prominently, bleh) have a harder time of it than others, and I like to think that my school chose wisely. I am an alumni of The University of Georgia, and our colors are red and black.

I’ve bought an untold number of dresses, pairs of shoes, and pieces of jewelry in red and black, thinking, “Great! I can wear this on game day!” In reality, there are only 6 or 7 home games per year, and I have more sundresses and red jewelry than I could ever hope to wear to them.

Not everyone understands the desire to dress up for a football game, but in the South, it’s a tradition – my mother and father did it decades before me (at Auburn and UGA, respectively), and it’s a custom that I’m proud to carry on. It harkens back to an era when social events, including football games, were worthy of proper dressing, and also an era where women didn’t go outside in sweatpants with words on their bottoms. Obviously, this tradition was made for me. One thing that’s very important for a put-together look, as all of you know, is a great bag, and it’s no less important on game days.

A good, functional, fashionable bag can make or break the day since keeping your things with you and safe while traipsing from tailgate to tailgate is essential if you want to eventually make it inside the game (tickets! Guard the tickets!). My personal pick?

Pure, Bulldawg red. Buy through eLuxury for $1500. So to those that may have never considered the vagaries of choosing a handbag for football season, happy shopping.

The Louis Vuitton Epi Leather Bowling Montaigne PM in red (Louis Vuitton is more common at southern football games than you’d think). Epi leather is rigid and durable, and the bag would probably be weighty enough to use to smack an opposing fan in the head. The PM size would be small enough to tuck safely under the bleacher and the zip-top closure would keep things safely inside where the bag to tip over or fall off a seat (because if you lose your ticket, the world ends). And the color?

Louis Vuitton Epi Alma

I have never denied or hidden the fact that I am a huge fan of Louis Vuitton. While the monogram line does not always tickle my fancy, I find Louis Vuitton to be one of the longstanding luxury brands left designing bags. Not every bag is a homerun, but there are plenty of great options every season. But if you do not want the glitz and glam, opt for the Louis Vuitton Epi Line. I have brought up the Epi line often, speaking of its ease of cleaning, lack of logos, and overall likability. The Alma comes in a classic shape, is light-weight, and available in an array of colors from the Epi line. Cassis, Ivoire, Black, Red, and Grenade are the colors available in the Louis Vuitton Epi Alma, the textured hand-held carryall which is a staple of the house. The bag is named after the Place de l’Alma, the grand Paris square at the end of Avenue Montaigne. The Alma features textured leather and is trimmed with smooth leather. The inside is lined with Alcantara lining (which is precisely what Vlad goes gaga over in his favorite luxury cars). Buy through eLuxury for $1,240.

Louis Vuitton Vernis Alma
The most recognized shape from Louis Vuitton is their Speedy, a very iconic bag to the brand. And following the Speedy in popularity is the classic Louis Vuitton Alma. The Alma is one of my favorite bags from Louis Vuitton. The shape is as distinctive as they come in the handbag WORLD.

It is a true handheld bag which is perfect for the working woman or the trendy gal. Per usual, the Alma has been recreated in every rendition possible, from tacky to stunning. While the Vernis line has not been a line from LV that I covet, it is a coveted line.

Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandoulière

The introduction of a new Louis Vuitton Speedy is always cause for celebration among handbag fiends, and we think that this particular bag will be of wide interest. The Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandoulière is similar to the monogram Speedy that we all know and love, but it brings with it the thoroughly modern addition of an integrated shoulder strap. Optional straps have long been available for purchase to clip onto the traditional Speedy’s handle attachments, but this dedicated strap brings with it a design logic that is lacking in a simple add-on. Itching to see this Speedy in action? Of course you are, which is why Vuitton and Caroline Sieber put together a catalog of shots with the Speedy Bandoulière out and about on a sunny day in London. We have those shots, plus a price list for the new bag, after the jump. Or if you’d like to skip straight to buying, the bags are available now

The Louis Vuitton Cruise 2011 look
book is out and . . . . . it is gorgeous

As if we needed another reason to have mid-winter vacation dreams, the Louis Vuitton Spring 2011 lookbook is out and it reads like a 1960s Palm Springs road trip fantasy. The clothes are lovely and wearable, the bags are covetable, and the scenery looks much more inviting than what’s going on outside my window right now. If you’re in the mood to be jealous on a whole variety of levels, we have many more pictures after the jump.

I’ve been asked many times to name the most iconic bags of all time. The Louis Vuitton Speedy is always part of my list. Not only is Louis Vuitton one of the most well-known design houses, but also the Speedy is one of the most iconic handbags. Precisely for this reason the Louis Vuitton Speedy will forever be classified as an iconic handbag.

Louis Vuitton XL . And XXL

Tuesdays with Twiggers: Just when I think I’m done they lure me back in! This time it is the gorgeousLouis Vuitton XL handbag that has done it. I am a huge fan of the trendy oversized, super-slouchy handbags that we always see the Olsen twins carrying around, and this new handbag fits this description perfectly. If you are a fan of oversized bags then feast your eyes on this beauty that is available in the XL size (29.5” x 12.8” x 5.9”) and the XXL size (32.2” x 16.5” x 11.4”). Or, as I like to call them, enormous and ginormous! The Louis Vuitton XL and XXL are made from soft, luxurious Mahina leather with microfiber lining. In addition a top clasp keeps things secure, and side buckles can adjust the size of the bag. I’m absolutely loving this bag, but alas the price has me contemplating buying the Chanel Baby Cabas first! What do you think? Thumbs up or thumbs down?
Louis Vuitton Monogram

Whether you love it or hate it, the Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas is one of the most recognizable logos in the world. Show the signature canvas to nearly anyone, and they will identify it right away. While production of counterfeit handbags, especially Louis Vuitton, are at an all time high, there are still people looking to buy the real thing.
When shopping online, don’t let any site fool you. The only store online that has struck a partnership with Louis Vuitton is eLuxury. At eLuxury’s exclusive Louis Vuitton boutique you can browse the latest and greatest Louis Vuitton items and know that you will be getting the real deal. Below we have compiled a list of 8 of the best Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas pieces under $1,000! Shop away!

I have been obsessing over this Louis Vuitton man bag since the second our favorite Bal Harbour SA ‘J’ allowed me to lay my eyes on it. The Mini Grimaud from the Bequia line is the ultimate, sophisticated man bag that inherits bold features from its vintage sister Grimaud (which was recently brought back to life in Damier canvas, without the traditional shoe inserts, though). The calf leather is very thick, which makes the Mini Grimaud a heavy carry even in an empty state. Numerous chunky brass pieces and the heavy-duty zipper add additional weight, which does limit the bag’s portability (not a comfortable aeronautical traveling bag) but makes a perfect companion for weekend convertible trips to the Hampton’s. For $2,550, you get a sturdy short-traveler that will last a lifetime.

The Louis Vuitton Suhali line costs a pretty penny but appeals to the crowd that loves Louis Vuitton and is not keen on logos. While goat leather is heavy, the simple style of the Louis Vuitton Suhali Lockit PM catches the eye. Smooth leather trim with contrast topstitching are perfect alongside golden brass hardware. For those who do not want to carry a heavier handbag, this may not be for you. Because the only option for carrying the bag is with the rolled leather handles, your arm may get tired easily. But it doesn’t mean that this bag is not gorgeous to admire. I would hope for a more luxurious lining, when the price is so high, but this handbag is merely lined with monogrammed textile lining. While I am not willing to shell out my credit card for this handbag, I do love it. Dimensions are 11.8x 9.8x 5.2
Worth it or not?

For those who appreciate meticulously crafted leather in an elegant timeless bag, the Louis Vuitton Suhali line is perfect. My mother and sister, aka Anti-logo-family-members, have always been drawn to this line. The sturdy and stunning Suhali goat leather offers divine structure. The Louis Vuitton Suhali Le Confident is a smaller handbag that packs a big punch. The contrast top stitching and golden brass hardware showcase the supple leather. Rivet detailing adds a special touch along with an exterior pocket with an S-lock closure. Not an everyday bag, but a very cute handbag if you are in the market for a small shoulder bag. Dimensions are 10.6x 7x 5.9.

Saving the best for last, we then set foot into none other than the creme-de-la-creme Hermes store. Although my girl was dying to buy a bag, she couldn’t — for obvious reasons. What is remarkable about this store was the overall feeling of the sophisticated and high-class ambiance. Within the two floors, we did check out the vast variety of one-of-a-kind couture clothing and accessories, ranging from ashtrays to jewlery and beach towels. For a mere $450 you can get the towel wet, sandy, drained in sun screen and splattered with seagull droppings.

A new ad campaign, a new denim color, and a hot new handbag! Fall is going to be great! I recently stumbled upon the new Scarlett Johansson ad campaign and after tearing my eyes away from the gorgeous ScarJo I immediately started assessing the bag and imagining the potential damage to my already fragile bank account. The verdict: Louis Vuitton has done it again . . . released yet another bag that I cannot live without, the Denim Neo Cabby!

The Denim Neo Cabby also heralds the introduction of a new denim color to replace the discontinued Lichen and Fuschia. A subtle black that has just the right amount of distressing, they look like the perfect pair of worn in jeans. The black will look great with just about any outfit, the black leather handles mean I don’t have to worry about getting any vachetta dirty, and the bag comes in two sizes (MM & GM) to please everyone! Like I said, the perfect bag! Stay tuned next Tuesday for more information on the newest Fall/Winter bags.

While I was tweaking the blog tonight, I noticed that the Briefcases catagory has collected some dust in the past months. Strange actually, for there is so many elegant and chic briefcases to talk about. I figured I might as well freshen things up. And why not go all out with my favorite of all, the Louis Vuitton Ambassador Briefcase. I want it, now. Worked in LV’s textured Epi leather, it truely does not even need an LV logo at all. It features a classic s-locl closure and a lined interior with pockets for cell, wallet and miscellaneous other accessories. An exterior back pockets rounds of the 16 by 12 inch briefcase. How very lovely, once I get done with my grad studies, I sure know what I’ll be sporting to work. At a price of over $1,800, I better start saving already.

You’ve made it in this WORLD if you have a Louis Vuitton bag named after you. I guess I can stop believing that I have made it in this world, because there surely isn’t an LV named after me (I’d like to think that in the future there will be someday?!). The new Louis Vuitton Audra is named after an iconic Broadway singer, Audra McDonald, which gives a new appeal to the Monogram Multicolore canvas line.

The shape is also alluring, being not square but triangular. The canvas is the Monogram Multicolore with natural cowhide trim and golden metal hardware, which was of course designed by Takashi Murakami. The inside is lined in Ruby alcantara and has two compartments to hold goodies. I guess the day that I have a high end bag from a classic designer like Louis Vuitton named after me, it means I’m golden. Until then, I’ll be an insignificant bump on a log. If you want to wear another’s fame and fortune in a bag, the Audra is available for $1250 via eLuxury.Best part of the bag for me is the heavy golden metallic hardware and links which gives way to the natural cowhide handles.
What better way to pair up a new bag than with new shoes? Now for me personally, LV bags haven’t been my favorite, for the mere reason (to some it may sound stupid) that the fakes keep being made and are so bad. But the shoes, I have always had a liking of. The Louis Vuitton Multicolore Open-Toe Mule is a sexy shoe with an unbelievably cute style.

The shoe is trimmed with natural cowhide which is underlined by fuchsia patent leather. This of course matches the insoles, which are made of fuchsia suede goat leather and are accented with yellow topstitching. Some of my favorite parts are the violet velvet bow, and the angular heel which is 2. You know why that heel is amazing, because it is short! Try being 5’10.5 and finding shoes that don’t make you tower over every man around you. Luckily Vlad is 6’3 so I be set with these heels. These shoes could make any outfit right for $490 through eLuxury.

Epanoui is French for radiant, blooming, blossomed – Louis Vuitton could not have chosen a better name for this graceful clutch-sized handbag. This is how I love my LV, absolutely glamorous and sophisticated with breathtaking detail. The Louis Vuitton L’Epanoui PM is held in exquisite Suhali goat leather and shaped into an elegant shape that every true lady will adore.
The high quality goat leather is a natural grain that does not undergo any chemical treatment, which guarantees an excellent balance between suppleness and durability.

Golden brass hardware with a polished gilding finish tops off this graceful package. The inside sports textile lining of LV’s classic micro Monogram, along with a patch pocket. The 9.5 x 5.5 x 4 blooming beauty goes for a hefty $2,280 through eLuxury, the premier carrier of Louis Vuitton accessories on the WebI sincerely doubt there is any other company with as many shapes and variations of their own signature canvas as Louis Vuitton. As we’re approaching mid-summer, the frenchmen’s creative force pops out the Louis Vuitton Batignolles Horizontal.

The Batignolles is meant as a versatile daily shopper or briefcase, with enough room to carry a laptop around, and yet still sport Vuitton’s elegance and luxury. The classic monogram canvas is finished with shiny golden hardware and sumptuous natural cowhide trim, while its inside is lined in canvas with an interior key ring, and holds zipped and cell phone pockets for storage. The side gussets are adjustable for when you feel like you need to carry around half the office with you around. The spacy 13.4 x 11.8 x 5.4 tote goes immediately for a reasonable $750. Reasonable for LV, anyway.

Louis Vuitton celebrates
100 . . Legendary Trunks

The Louis Vuitton name has become ubiquitous with the art of travel. Their lineage of creating trunks and luggage for travelers traces back to 1854, when Louis Vuitton began offering elegant and pragmatic trunks. Since then, the House of Vuitton made trunks for explorers, adventurers, princes, elegant ladies, and artists. Over time the trunks have evolved and this month Louis Vuitton is releasing their book: Louis Vuitton: 100 Legendary Trunks.

I prefer picture heavy books, and this is precisely what is being presented. The book showcases some of the most beautiful creations from the House with over eight hundred photographs. This way you can see many of the trunks over time, whether it be a trunk-bed, steamer, caviar box, circus trunk, or a toiletry kit to name a few. The book also delves into the process of how Louis Vuitton makes their trunks.

I love a good Cruise bag. As much as they are perfectly suited for a cruise itself or if you were vacationing on a yacht in St. Tropez (I wish!!), there is always more use you can get from these bags. Sprucing up your bag choices as the seasons change is a great way to freshen up your look. Many cruise bags offer accents that coincide with a nautical theme. What better way to pick a Cruise Bag then turning to Louis Vuitton?

Man Bag Monday: Louis Vuitton Damier Graphite Voyage

We don’t often write about men’s accessories in these parts, but the manbags (and gloves and belts and sunglasses and shoes…) that just debuted in Paris for Louis Vuitton Fall 2011 are too good to pass up. I don’t personally know too many men who carry clutches, but most of the hand-held bags would make great travel accessories to carry inside the collection’s larger options. Or, if I get my way, they’d also be great to loan to a ladyfriend. Full pictures after the jump

Man Bag Monday 'Louis Vuitton Damier Graphite Voyage'

We can not go for more than a few weeks with Man Bag Monday without featuring Louis Vuitton. LV’s bag are not only iconic for women but also for men. Louis Vuitton offers a wide variety of canvases and leathers to choose from which makes each item stand apart from the next, even if it is slightly. When the Damier Graphite collection was introduced in the Fall of 2008, it was evident it would be an instant sensation, especially for men. I love the pairing of grey and black squares which looks both masculine and stylish.
